The Stroud Area Regional Police has seen an increase in the use of electric scooters and electric bikes and would like to make sure everyone knows the law for the proper uses of these modes of transportation.
Electric Scooters- Are considered vehicles in the state of Pennsylvania (motor-driven cycle). Click here for a fact sheet. In order to be operated on the roadway the electric scooter would be required to be titled, registered, inspected, and have insurance. To register your electric scooter, click here. If unable to meet the registration requirements, they are only allowed to operate on private property and not on public roadways or sidewalks. Title 75 Section 3703.
Electric Bike (e-bike)/motorized pedal cycles- See the attached infographic for information on requirements for e-bikes and motorized pedal cycles. This chart will help explain what the difference is between the two and what is required for each. For operation of either of these you need to be at least 16 years old.
Bicycles- Click here for information on bicycle laws and safety. If you own a bicycle, please take a moment to register it with Stroud Area Regional Police on our Crimewatch site. Every year we find bicycles that we can't return to owners as they are not registered. To register your bicycle, click here.
No matter your mode of transportation, the Stroud Area Regional Police want everyone to share the road respectfully and to travel safe!
