On January 17, 2024, at the regularly scheduled Pocono Township Board of Commissioners Meeting, five Pocono Township Police Department Officers were recognized for their quick and heroic actions that resulted in saving two lives.
*On August 15th, 2023, Corporal Douglas Smith, Officer Christopher Gupko, Officer Larry Miller and Officer Thomas Moser responded to a cardiac arrest emergency at the Nike Outlet in the Crossings. Upon arrival, Officer Gupko maintained safety and security over the scene while Corporal Smith, Officer Miller and Officer Moser used an AED and performed CPR, reviving the male patient. The patient ultimately made a full recovery.
*On November 21st, 2023, Officer Liam Rebetje responded to the Scotrun Diner for a report of a female who was choking. Upon arrival Officer Rebetje successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver to clear the blockage. The female made a full recovery and later expressed her sincere gratitude for Officer Rebetje saving her life.
Officers received certificates from the Pocono Township Board of Commissioners and the American Heart Association "Heartsaver Heros" for their heroic actions.
Members of the Pocono Township Police Department are trained to respond to medical emergencies and initiate CPR and Life Saving techniques. These are two prime examples of how Officers put their training and dedication to work to protect their community and those who visit it.
