UPDATE - SULLIVAN TRAIL 80 OVERPASS SAFETY ISSUES
Pocono Township spoke with PennDOT officials yesterday regarding the lane restriction on Sullivan Trail under the Route 80 bridge. PennDOT recently placed stop signs and a lane restriction on Sullivan Trail (a state road) due to the deteriorating concrete wall falling into the roadway.
PennDOT indicated they are finalizing details with a contractor to complete an emergency repair to the wall. The work will begin soon. While the work is projected to be completed relatively quickly, PennDOT will have to confirm the exact projected timeline for the work (and we can update this post once shared - the Township was told the work could be complete within one week).
PennDOT indicated they will be conducting this work during off-peak hours - the road will be one lane during the day, with full closure at night. They are considering a detour route utilizing Frantz Hill Road during the night hours.
While the work would be during low traffic volume hours, Pocono Township expressed concerns about additional traffic on back roads and the need for adequate signage and speed trailers along the detour route (electronic speed signs etc.). We also specifically requested PennDOT install a temporary traffic light on Sullivan Trail to reduce driver confusion and allow more traffic through the project area under the overpass.
Again, this is a PennDOT road/project and this post represents all the information the Township knows at this time. We will share as more specific details are provided.
