On March 20, 2024, at 1613 hours, an officer from the Pocono Township Police Department received notification from the Pennsylvania State Police - Firearms Division, of a possible Uniform Firearms Act, Sale or Transfer of Firearms violation.
Based on the information received, on May 3, 2023, at approximately 1306 hours, Randy R Long, a 58-year-old male from Covington Township, attempted to purchase a firearm from Pocono Mountain Firearms, which was located at 2551 Route 611 in Scotrun, Pocono Township. Long attempted to purchase a rifle on this date, but was denied by having a criminal conviction of a crime enumerated under Title 18 USC Section 922(g)(1), regarding a conviction in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, namely a second offense DUI.
The officer responded to Pocono Mountain Firearms, now located at 2591 Route 940, Pocono Summit, PA and collected the store's records for the attempted purchase that Long made on 5/3/2023 which indicated that Long checked "No" for block 21(e) of the ATF 4473 form, which asks if the buyer has ever been convicted of a crime for which the judge could have imprisoned the buyer for more then one year, which Long has. A criminal history was run on Long, which confirmed that Long had a prior conviction for misdemeanor 1 DUI.
On March 28, 2024, the officer was issued a felony arrest warrant for Long, where he was charged with felony 3 Sale or Transfer of a Firearm - makes any materially false written statement, including a statement on any form promulgated by Federal or State agencies, misdemeanor 2 Unsworn Falsification - written false statement which he does not believe to be true, and misdemeanor 3 Unsworn Falsification - statements under penalty.
On April 2, 2024, Long turned himself in to the Pocono Township Police Department where he was placed under arrest and taken in front of Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge. Long was arraigned on his charges and was released on $7,500.00 unsecured bail. Long is awaiting a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge.
