On February 12, 2023 at 0249 hours, Leroy Litus, a 23 year old male from Tobyhanna, was stopped by an Officer from the Pocono Township Police Department for a traffic violation. While speaking with Litus an odor of marijuana could be detected coming from the vehicle. Officers requested consent to search Litus' vehicle, which he denied. Litus' vehicle was subsequently seized and towed from the location of the stop and placed in the Pocono Township Police impound lot, where it was secured until a search warrant could be applied for.
At 0503 hours, Officers observed Litus inside the police impound lot, removing items from his seized vehicle. Once observed by Officers, Litus jumped the fenced in the impound lot and fled on foot. Officers chased Litus through the Pocono Township Police parking lot and ultimately tased Litus and took him into custody. Upon arresting Litus, he was found with a book bag, that he had removed from the vehicle, which contained 15 pre-packaged marijuana packaged and THC edibles.
Officers patrolled the area around police headquarters and located Jose Camacho, parked in a parking lot by the township property. Camacho was found to have driven Litus to the parking lot to drop him off so he could retrieve marijuana from his vehicle, which was in the police impound. Further investigation by officers found that Litus was selling marijuana and communicating through his cell phone to arrange the sales.
Litus was placed in Monroe County Correctional Facility and was arraigned with secure bail being set at $50,000.
