On April 24th, 2023, Officers with the Pocono Township Police Department observed a white BMW sedan travelling on Rt 611 without having the vehicle's headlights on. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle for the infraction, the vehicle fled. Officers initially lost sight of the vehicle, however, were able to locate it again in the parking lot of Sheetz. Officers again attempted to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle fled again leading officers from Pocono Township Police Department, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police on a high-speed pursuit for 14.5 miles. Officers with Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police were able to utilize stop sticks to safely end the pursuit, disabling the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 17-year-old male from the East Stroudsburg area. Upon further investigation, it was found that a license plate frame containing a black cloth-like material had been installed on the vehicle, allowing the operator to conceal the registration from view. Charges were filed on the driver through the juvenile system.
The Pocono Township Police Department would like to thank the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police for their assistance during the pursuit.
