On January 21st, 2023, an Officer with the Pocono Township Police Department was on routine patrol on Rt 611 in the area of the Fill & Fly gas station. The Officer observed a black Chevy Colorado parked near the gas pumps on the curb with damage to the driver side front fender. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, the Officer observed that the driver was slumped over behind the wheel of the vehicle and that the vehicle was running and still in drive.
The Officer attempted to wake and speak with the driver; however, the driver refused to follow commands and began to drive away. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Andrew F. De Stephano, was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Upon further investigation, it was found that De Stephano had crashed into a parked vehicle while leaving Camelback Lodge. He then drove the wrong way through the drop-off/pick-up area in front of the Lodge at a high rate of speed and struck several "Pedestrian Crossing" signs.
Charges were filed.
