On March 10th, 2025 at approximately 11:45pm, an officer with The Pocono Township Police Department was monitoring traffic from a parking lot in Swiftwater. A vehicle pulled into the parking lot behind the officer and the driver, later identified as 25 year old Cesar Cardenas, got out of the vehicle complaining he had hit the median and blown a tire.
Through an investigation Cardenas was discovered to have a loaded firearm on his person that he did not have a license to carry, as well as marijuana and paraphernalia in his belongings. Cardenas was placed under arrest and brought back to Police headquarters.
While the arrest paperwork was being prepared, Cardenas slipped his cuffs and attempted to escape the police station. He was taken back into custody after a brief struggle. Cardenas faces felony charges of Firearms not to be carried without a license and Escape, and Misdemeanor charges for Resisting arrest, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of drug paraphernalia. No officers or the suspect were injured during this encounter.
