On February 9th, 2023, a Pocono Township Officer was on routine patrol on Sullivan Trail in the area of Gravatts Way when a white Toyota pickup was observed travelling the opposite direction with an equipment violation. After turning around to affect a traffic stop on the vehicle, the Officer observed that the driver had turned off the rear lights on his vehicle and was driving at a high rate of speed. The Officer activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and continued to follow the vehicle as it turned onto Paul Terrace, where the vehicle came to a stop.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as James J Barbagallo, it was found that his driver's license was Suspended DUI Related and that his driver's status was listed as a Habitual Offender. Based on the investigation, Barbagallo was charged with Fleeing/Eluding (M2), Habitual Offender while suspended (M2), Driving Without Lights to Avoid Arrest (S), as well as several other summary traffic offenses.
